“Good Optics”

Millmead Optical Group is delighted to announce that we have recently been awarded a “One to Watch” accreditation by Best Companies, the independent organisation widely-recognised as the gold standard in workplace engagement.

The accreditation is awarded to companies who have clear policies to make work better for all their staff. Over the summer all our staff took part in a comprehensive survey process and we recently received the notification of our award from Best Companies.

Gemma Heston, Millmead Optical Group’s HR manager, said: “Millmead Optical Group is going from strength to strength. After being awarded the Investors In People – Gold Accreditation back in April for our workplace practices, this latest acknowledgment from Best Companies is the icing on the cake. This announcement is even more rewarding for us as a group, since our own staff were given an anonymous forum to provide candid feedback about all aspects of our workplace environment. Our staff completed the ‘B-Heard Survey’ which measures engagement levels within the workplace and provides an insight into the culture, leadership and management of the organisation. We are delighted that our hard work in investing in staff welfare and workplace protocols has been given this recognition.”

Commenting on the award, Millmead’s CEO James Conway said:  2022 has been a year of many successes and awards for Millmead Optical group. It began with Optician Magazine’s “Frame Supplier of the Year” award  in December 2021 and has continued with our “Investors In People – Gold Accreditation” back in April. More recently we won the “Corporate Social Responsibility Supplier of the Year” award for our jewellery packaging brand Pollards & Talbots. To have Best Companies acknowledge that we are ‘One to Watch’ makes us enormously proud of the foundations we’ve been building over the last few years and which are now starting to be recognised. The accreditation will be proudly displayed in our boardroom display cabinet for all to see. We’re looking forward to a number of exciting new announcements as we head into 2023 as well, so watch this space…”

About Best Companies

Best Companies is the brainchild of founder and CEO Jonathan Austin. He was inspired by a Servant Leadership conference in the USA in 2000, where he attended a seminar with the top 2 companies to work for in America at the time. They talked about how they attributed their over-achievement as a business to the level of engagement they had within their workforce.

As the owner of several businesses, Jonathan wanted to create a true measure of workplace engagement so he could learn how to build a happier, healthier workforce. The first step was to develop a world-class methodology, which he did in collaboration with academics at the University of Plymouth. The first Best Companies to Work For list was launched in 2001, and has continued to grow and develop ever since. The Best Companies to Work For Lists and Best Companies Accreditation are now recognised as the standard in workplace engagement. Those in the small, mid-size, large and big categories are recognised on a national level, with recent expansion seeing the addition of regional and sector-based categories. Best Companies works with some of the world’s best-known organisations: measuring, improving and recognising great workplace engagement.
